66 Thoughts that came to me while pattern cutting for the first time

Okay I can do this

  1. Should have cleared the table first, will do that now
  2. How the hell do this pattern open up, it seems never ending
  3. Ok there is no way I’m going to be able to fold this up again
  4. Meh, future problem.
  5. Its double sided; well that is going to confuse me
  6. Right what’s next?
  7. Okay so I need to copy the pattern on to tracing paper
  8. I don’t have tracing paper, what is tracing paper, internet help me
  9. (Some time later) Okay new plan: Greaseproof paper to the rescue
  10. Why do I even have greaseproof paper?, I’ve never used it so why did I buy it”? I must have confused it with baking paper at some point. Meh still winning so thanks past me
  11. Okay I will need a lot of this and it’s not wide enough. I need to find sticky tape
  12. Why was the tape in the kitchen? Seriously need to rethink how I organise my kitchen at some point.
  13. Right I’ve created two very long and 60cm wide strips of paper to trace this pattern out on
  14. Shit, what size am I? Right better go measure myself, why did I do this earlier?. Dear future self: please be more organised next time.
  15. Okay I’m a size 5, which line is that? Listen to Tilly, Lois and highlight your size line so you won’t get confused.
  16. How can I not highlight straight over a straight line?
  17. Okay time to start tracing.
  18. This is oddly soothing,
  19. Yes I’m a dressmaker/ seamtress
  20. Feeling very relaxed right now
  21. Okay I need a ruler to get the grain line straight, don’t freehand this
  22. Don’t forget the little circles, not sure what they are for. I should check this so I do it right where is the book?.
  23. Okay so they are start and stop points for the drawstring gap.
  24. Right so that’s the bottom back and the top front done now to turn the pattern over. Sidenote I remembered what the notches are, so proud of myself now
  25. Shit I ripped it while turning it over, (sigh) where did I put the sticky tape?
  26. Ok more tracing, I’ve totally got this
  27. (Just realised that paper patterns are going to take forever to stick together; okay mental note set more time aside next time)
  28. Okay I forgot lunch, very lost in tracing so that’s good I guess
  29. I mean the whole plan in learning out to sew was to occupy my mind and build self-esteem so it’s going well.
  30. Right Muffin time
  31. I feel so smug taking a prebaked homemade muffin out of my freezer
  32. These are great I’m going to have 2 more.
  33. Okay back to tracing, I love this; so relaxing
  34. This involves a lot more walking than I had expected; think I’m doing this wrong.
  35. And that’s all the tracing done
  36. Right, attempting to fold up the pattern
  37. This is easier than I thought it would be. Done and back in the pocket at the back of the book. Winning
  38. Okay time to bring the fabric in
  39. How have I managed to crease this again already? Will need to re-press.
  40. Fabric pressed and laying on table nice and flat, what’s next?.
  41. Right how to I lay out the pattern again? Where is the book?
  42. How do I manage to keep losing the book? I live in a 2 bedroom unit for crying out loud.
  43. Why did I think putting it on a seat under the table was a good idea
  44. Okay so they will both fit if I do it one at a time, thank you universe.
  45. Okay let’s take this nice and slow; pin and cut each leg separately
  46. Right all videos on YouTube start at a point and work around. I can totally do that
  47. One side pinned and is now lying flat
  48. Okay, this is going well slowly but well.
  49. Using the ruler to get it to lie flat before pinning was a genius move, can’t remember who I stole this idea from but It. Is. Brilliant.
  50. One leg done and pinned and it is perfect; like there should be applause perfect.
  51. Okay scary time; using the fabric scissors
  52. Go really slowly; this is oddly satisfying
  53. YES!!! I have the font pants cut out
  54. Time to remove the pattern
  55. Shit I forgo the notch, okay re-pin the pattern on and cut it.
  56. Time to pin out the back pants
  57. Why is the fabric so slippery now?
  58. Ok its all pinned and it is not flat, time to take it out and start again
  59. And again
  60. Okay walk away from the fabric, go take Archer for a walk outside and calm down again
  61. Okay nice and calm after a 1 hour walk
  62. Right take 3 on the back.
  63. And it works perfectly this time
  64. YES I DID IT; SO EXCITED
  65. Lesson for future self: it will not work if you aggressive; do not rush this. In other words Keep Calm and Pin On
  66. Right now to start Sewing (another day as I’m on night shift so I need to get ready for work)
